May 4th 2008 - Let's Play Ball - Finding Safety in an Unsafe World
Friends, the journey of transformation is a scary place – Jesus never taught it to be easy and comfortable. Our nature is to want our life to be comfortable and non-threatening. We crave to be accepted as “we are” and to not be challenged or expected to change. Many times our desire is to not want others to have expectations, to have no conflict, to not have others looking at me, to not be vulnerable, to be hidden from the storms, and the list goes on. Life is not safe, as we demand it to be.
Building upon the theme of baseball, this week’s teaching will focus on finding safety by relying on the base coaches (the Word, the Holy Spirit and Community). Unlike baseball safety is not found in a person or a place (like a base). It is found in our relationship with the owner, Jesus Christ. As you think of baseball, which player is the most important? If we broke it down, we would realize that every player is important. I think some of the more important players are the coaches. There are so many different types of coaches in baseball. One for most every position, the line coaches, field coach, pitching coach, catching coach and the list goes on. These coaches help equip, strengthen and deepen the passion of the players. The best players are the ones that yield to the direction of the coaches; and also those who have fully committed to the owner.
I am teaching to the truth that finding safety in an unsafe world requires commitment, humility, sacrifice and service. It is not looking to our circumstances for safety or at the individuals who appear unsafe.
So friends, let the makeover continue! Join me right now in our web cast. Our Senior Pastor, Mark Savage, taught this message May 4, 2008.
