June 15th 2008 - Puzzle Quest!
This Sunday is Father’s Day. I think it is kind of funny how intently the marketing is for this holiday. I am also amused by the marketing assumptions of what father’s want. I did think it was very creative that Sear’s has sent out repeated ads with cut outs drawn around the pictures for dads to post for family members to see. The one’s I posted keep getting thrown away. (not really)
As I think more about this I wonder what a father would really want for this day? My first thought is this…”is it only for one day?” Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for father’s to be treated with respect, honor and to be cherished every day? One could shout back…”my dad doesn’t deserve respect!!!!! There might be some additional %^*%^*$ thrown in to give emphasis to the point. Yet God directs us to honor our mother and our father. I want to be the right person, as a Disciple of Jesus Christ, and encourage each of us to honor and to respect our dads on a daily basis. A purchased gift will get forgotten, but respect is cherished and is one that is directed for us to give by the Word and the Holy Spirit.
This weekend I am teaching the 2nd actual message in our current series, Puzzle Quest, titled Connecting Points. I am teaching to the challenge that we would treat every person in the way a loving father would treat his own son. Be sure to read and pray through Luke 15 in order to be ready for Sunday. When others look to you do they see the Loving Father or the Older Brother? Our interaction with people are the Connecting Points in which we are either reflecting the father’s image or the older brother’s. Jesus’ heart and directive is that we would reflect the Father.
Join me right now in our web cast. Mark Savage, our Senior Pastor taught this message June 15th, 2008.
