March 2nd 2008 - Transformation
I have picked up a new hobby since last summer…pen-turning. This is the art of fashioning an object into a writing instrument. I am amazed at how you can start with a block of different types of wood or plastic, actually most anything, sized ¾ x ¾ x 2 ½ inches. Simply put, you place 2 pieces of the wood on a lathe, using different types of tools; you can transform this block of material into a beautifully shaped writing pen. This processed includes shaping, sanding, finishing and putting the right mechanism in the pen.
In many ways this is the description of the journey with Jesus Christ. He shapes, sands, finishes and inputs the right stuff in us through His Word, His Holy Spirit, His Community and our willingness to lead into what He is doing in us. When Jesus Christ is fashioning us, it creates pain. Life distractions also create pain as well. This week, we begin a new series titled, “The Invitation of Pain.” Pain is an important part of the process of transformation. When we understand the importance of pain and submit to it, we will find ourselves transformed. Friends join us this week as we accept the invitation of pain.
Also know this, The Faith United Methodist church has changed their vote date to March 13th. They have decided to vote separately for the sale of the building. So keep praying. I want to challenge you to head to the neighborhood surrounding Faith United Methodist and begin prayer walking and/or prayer driving [keep your eyes open J] throughout it.
Join me right now in our web cast. Our Lead Pastor, Shelley Bauer, taught this message March 2, 2008.
