I played football as a kid. I remember playing for the Giants. You see the Giants were winners. As winners, we began to become prideful and arrogant. Our coach in his great wisdom called that pride and arrogance out into the open. In our self inflicted pride, we ignored his insights and went into the last game of our season and were beaten badly. As we were sitting on the sidelines dumbfounded by our loss, our coach began to speak.
He said this to us. I remember it as if I were hearing it again today. “You have to continue to desire to win. To desire it is to work hard at winning, that which you desire, and to not let anything get in the way of it.”
Friends, as you think about desire, what is it that you desire? This week we are speaking to the truth of desire. God created us with desire and fulfillment. God created us to desire, which means to wish or long for; crave; want, a longing or craving for something that brings satisfaction or enjoyment. We are created to desire the things that God desires. Is that true of you?
This Sunday, Jill and I are teaching to the truth that we are made in the image of God. In His image we experience 7 core desires. Shelley Bauer is teaching this same message at the women’s retreat. This is definitely a different weekend, that is promised to be great.
